How we build an estimate
No mystery numbers. Every calculator shows its inputs and lets you change them.
Planning ranges, not live quotes
We start with published retail and contractor cost ranges for fencing, concrete, soil, gravel, decking, and pavers, then round to a planning band. Ranges are reviewed quarterly.
Regional labor index
Each state gets a cost index based on relative labor and material prices. The calculator applies it to both materials and installation labor.
Ranges, not promises
Every result is a low-to-high range. Site conditions, permits, and contractor availability can move the final bid. Get three local quotes before buying.
Frequently asked questions
Are the calculators free?
Yes. Every calculator and guide is free, with no account, email, or paywall. We keep the site running with advertising and, eventually, affiliate links.
How accurate are the estimates?
The calculators use 2026 national material prices and a state labor index to produce a planning range. They are not contractor bids. Local prices, site conditions, and scope can move the number by 20–40 percent or more.
Why do fence and concrete prices vary by state?
Labor rates, material distribution, permit fees, climate, and local competition all differ. The state selector adjusts the estimate, but only a local quote captures your exact site.
Can I use these numbers to compare contractor bids?
Yes, as a benchmark. Use the estimate to sanity-check the total, then compare the line items: materials, labor, gates, removal, permits, and cleanup. The cheapest bid is not always the best scope.
Do you store the numbers I enter?
No. The calculators run in your browser. We do not receive the dimensions or costs you type. Standard analytics may record page visits, not calculator inputs.
How often are the cost figures updated?
We review material and labor ranges quarterly and mark each guide with an update date. If you see a price that looks far off in your area, contact us and we will check it.
Start with the number that matters.
Thirty seconds now can save a weekend of measuring, a second trip to the store, or a quote that is 30% too high.
