What the 3D deck model shows

The visualizer builds a deck from the same dimensions you enter in the cost calculator: length, width, height, material, railing, and stairs. Deck boards, rim joists, support posts, railing, and steps are generated in the browser, so the preview changes as soon as you change a field.

How to use it

  1. Set the deck length and width, or pick a size preset.
  2. Choose the height: ground level, raised, or second story.
  3. Pick pressure-treated wood, composite, or PVC.
  4. Choose railing coverage and the number of stairs.
  5. Press Load 3D model, then drag to orbit and scroll or pinch to zoom.
  6. Use Angle, Front, and Top to reset the camera.

What the model includes

Support postsPosts at corners and roughly 8 ft intervalsFootings, frost depth, soil capacity, and beam spans
RailingPosts about every 6 ft, top/bottom rails, balustersGuard height, baluster spacing, and load requirements
Stairs1 ft treads with the deck height divided into stepsRise/tread ratio, handrail, landing, and code limits
House wallSimple wall, door, and windows for contextLedger attachment, flashing, siding, and door clearance

What the 3D preview does not do

  • It does not size joists, beams, or footings.
  • It does not model slope, soil, drainage, or frost depth.
  • It does not check guard height or baluster spacing against your local code.
  • It does not replace a permit drawing or a contractor quote.

Use the preview to check the look, the deck area, and the railing/stair count. Use the deck cost calculator for material, labor, removal, and a DIY comparison.

Next step

Once the size and features look right, open the deck cost calculator with the same dimensions. If you are comparing decking materials, price pressure-treated, composite, and PVC separately before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 3D deck visualizer free?

Yes. It is free and does not require an account or email. The 3D engine loads only when you press the button, so the page stays fast until you use it.

Does the 3D model include railing and stairs?

Yes. Choose no railing, front railing only, or railing on the front and both sides. Choose 0, 1, or 2 stairs. Railing posts and steps are generated from the deck height.

Can I use the 3D deck view on my phone?

Yes. Drag to orbit and pinch to zoom. If the browser cannot start WebGL, the page shows a fallback and the deck quantities still work.

Are the deck dimensions exact?

No. The preview uses a simplified frame, 6 ft railing posts, 1 ft stair treads, and a flat site. It is a planning visual, not a construction drawing. Confirm footings, framing spans, guards, and local codes before building.

Why does the 3D model load on a button?

The Three.js bundle is about 150 KB compressed. Loading it only when requested keeps the initial page fast and avoids downloading a 3D engine you may not use.

Can I see the cost of this deck?

Use the deck cost calculator for size, material, height, railing, stairs, removal, and a DIY comparison. The 3D page gives you the visual and quantity check; the calculator gives you the budget range.
